PTA Programs

Volunteers are the key to making any PTA successful and at Bear Branch there are many areas for volunteers to give of their time and talents. Volunteers interested in a particular program are encouraged to contact the appropriate board member for information. We love our volunteers!

Art Masterpiece
The purpose of this enrichment program is to introduce a variety of art to the students and to enhance their appreciation and exposure to the arts. Follow-up enrichment activities present the opportunity to reinforce concepts and allow the children to create their own "masterpiece".

Arts in Education
This enrichment program provides the students with an artistic performance in the Fall and Spring. These programs can include musical acts, plays or other forms of the arts.

Bear Branch Buzz
Communication for parents, teachers and staff alike is the focus of our weekly newsletter the Buzz. Articles for the Buzz should be submitted by 3:00 Monday for the following weeks issue.

Beautification
The PTA Beautification Committee has the unique opportunity of making a positive impact on the physical environment of the school.

Cub Scout Liaison
Cub Scout Pack 3603 is chartered by the Bear Branch PTA and provides boys with a positive environment.

Cultural Arts
This schoolwide, theme based event is a favorite with everyone involved. Parents, teachers, staff and students work together to make this event a memorable and exciting learning experience.

Environmental Awareness
This program encourages environmental education and awareness for the students, parents and staff through the Environmental Poster Contest, Earth Week activities and by having Wildlife on Wheels from the Museum of Science visit the students on our campus.

FallFest
This fun, family social event is held in October and is one of our PTA fundraisers for the year. A wonderful festival with games, rides, raffles, prizes and food is held in conjunction with giftwrap sales. Funds from this fundraiser are used to support the many programs we sponser during the school year.

Health & Safety
Bike safety and Drug Awareness and Prevention are promoted with our Bike Rodeo and schoolwide ribbon decorating during Red Ribbon Week. Volunteers also serve drinks and popcicles at our spectacular Super Kids Day.

Homeroom Representatives
Representatives plan parties for the students and assist with special grade level activities during the year. Parties are held for all students at Christmas and Valentine's Day. In addition, an Easter party is planned for Kindergarten and First Grade.

Hospitality
Volunteers serve refreshments at the PTA General Meetings held five times during the school year and also help with the planning and organization of the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon held in the Spring.

Library
Volunteers play an important role at the circulation desk, reshelving library books and helping students research and locate books. This is a wonderful way to use your talents in a variety of important ways. The Library also needs volunteers for the two Book Fairs held during the year.

Membership
An active and large PTA membership is an asset at any school and Bear Branch parents know the importance of being involved. The Membership Chairperson is responsible for coordinating our Fall and Spring Membership Drive, collecting the annual dues and filing the required state reports.

Memory Book
Volunteers from each grade level are asked to take pictures at functions and activities during the year. They are also needed to help with yearbook layouts and sales.

Parent Safety
Children walking and riding their bikes to and from school arrive safely because of the dedication of volunteers at busy street crossings.

Publications
Students, Parents and Faculty all consider the Bear Branch Phone Directory to be one of their most useful sources of information. Only students who return permission slips from their parents will have information published in the directory.

Publicity
We love to hear about our school activities in the Kingwood Observer and that is why publicity is so important to us. The Publicity Chairperson submits articles and pictures to the paper on a regular basis and always appreciates having pictures donated.

Reading Program
Students are encouraged to participate in this very worthwhile program, which stands for Read Aloud at Home! Volunteers from each grade level tally and record each student's reading time, which is rewarded by monthly pizza coupons and year end tropheys.

Reflections
Student creativity is promoted and encouraged with this annual state wide, themed contest. Students submit their work in a variety of formats including writing, photography, art and music.

Science Lab
The purpose of Science Lab is to help turn kids on to the World of Science at an early age. The lab reinforces what students are learning in the classroom and gives each student hands-on experience by showing them that science is a part of everything around them. Volunteers work on many different levels in the Science Lab.

Special Populations
Students learn about handicaps and learning disabilities during "Everybody Counts Week". Students and volunteers receive much from this very important program.

Spring Fundraiser
The second of PTAs fundraisers for the year and includes a Talent Show and Silent Auction. This is another family event that is enjoyed by everyone!

Teacher Appreciation
Baked goods, birthday acknowlegements and a Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon show the Bear Branch Faculty and Staff how much they are appreciated during the year. Volunteers are needed to bake goodies and help with the luncheon.

Volunteers
Volunteers play a vital part in helping teachers and support staff with xeroxing, filing, cutting and pasting, listening to children read and many other activities. By relieving the teachers and support staff of some of the clerical duties, they can direct their energies toward meeting the needs of the children.
